I've always had a fascination with this case. When the original "Four on the Floor" book went out of print, I was encouraged that this re-do became available. The story is well laid out but the part where they dropped the ball is with the pictures. Why is the quality of these so poor? It's on a par of a copy of a copy.And no crime scene photos.But most of the crime scene photos I've seen have been on a par with the poor ones in the book. Crime scene photos were generally 35mm during the time this crime took place. But these are seldom, if ever, revealed.I was hoping this book would have been better illustrated but it was not.
Love this book. Porn Star John Holmes (Johnnie Wadd) and his cadre of misfits, druggies and murderers go about the slaughter of another group of misfits, druggies and murderers to avenge a break in at LA drug czar Ed Nash's home. Nobody messes with Nash and before long the Wonderland Ave homestead, (where the conspirators live) is literally drenched in blood and gore from this payback crime that slaughtered five.. LA homicide dicks Tom Lange and Robert Souza are assigned this high-profile case and spend years tracking down suspects while in and out of courtrooms dealing with a confederacy of dunces to include suspects, jurists, attorneys, witnesses, police brass, the media, and even some victims. It's a real crime story, one of the biggest in LA history and written in cop jargon with a few belly laughs thrown in. Hard, hard work by these two detectives who did the heavy lifting bringing this case to trial and many years later lived to write about it. A must read.
I do not remember hearing about this multiple murder story in 1981. The viciousness of the murders is appalling and having to go through the crime scene to start the investigation is equally appalling. The years of work on this case by so many people is amazing. Unfortunately the murderers were never found guilty, but not for lack of trying by the LAPD, other police agencies and the district attorney's office. The book is well written and entertaining, even with some dashes of humor here and there. I'm glad to see the authors/detectives have retired and gone on to less stressful pursuits (no pun intended). If you are interested in homicide investigations, this is a good book for you.
Truth IS better than fiction! It's certainly the case in this crime story! Thoroughly engrossing and sometimes, shocking. This is one good read from start to finish. I had a hard time putting it down! You won't be disappointed! I bought the paperback version and all the photos were there. (A previous review mentioned photos blacked out? Perhaps a Kindle issue.)
This book removes all of the hype, glitz and spin surrounding the murders. The detailed descriptions of the intense work involved in the investigation, the people on both sides of the law, the frustrations and the crime scene made it all very real. It was an incredible read that kept my interest throughout the entire book! More cases are described in the book, making the read even more fascinating. I am looking forward to your next book!!
